Magnetic Toggles Now Shipping
OTTO Controls is now shipping its T6 series of customizable magnetically held toggle switches to meet demand in the MIL/aero market.
The most common applications for magnetically held toggles are flight decks on military and commercial fixed wing or rotary aircraft. These toggles control certain automated systems to help prevent accidental actuation, reduce pilot workload and ensure that safety systems are reset properly.
How it Works
An operator manually sets the T6 magnetically held toggle into position. When a circuit is broken, or the computer triggers a remote disconnect, the toggle’s internal solenoid automatically releases and snaps the toggle to the OFF position. This may occur when the computer detects a system fault or a prespecified parameter is met, such as the plane descending below a certain altitude on approach.
Automated flight control functions that are typically controlled by magnetic toggles include:
yaw dampers, which prevent an aircraft’s nose from moving side-to-side when it shouldn’t
anti-skid brakes
anti-collision lighting
engine generators and auxiliary power units
electronic altitude control
OTTO’s T6 magnetically held toggles meet SAE AS55941 and are customizable for specific applications.
